who we are and what we do
Founded in 2019 by SAS: Who Dares Wins finalist, Steven Crompton, Run for Child Poverty stages running events and with the resources offers structured support and grants to projects across the globe. Our Mission is to help alleviate the suffering of children stricken with extreme poverty.
''No Child should have to face extreme adversity alone,
No Adult should have to recover from their childhood''
- Run For Child Poverty
The belief in our cause leads us to organising and participating in running events across the UK and wider world. Three months in Uganda was enough to expose the horrors inflicted on these children, as well as the firm conviction that we had to take action on it.
Many street children are harmed on a daily basis by adults, including government officials and the police, other children, and even their own families. They are also denied access to education and healthcare, which is their right. If national laws criminalise begging or loitering, they can face jail just for trying to survive.
Street children are vulnerable to exploitation by abusers who may sexually assault them, forcibly recruit them into criminal activities, traffic them and send them out into the streets to beg and steal.
While we were there, we identified projects who were doing fantastic work to save lives, notably Amari Uganda and Saved on Street. Statistics inform us that over 100 million children live on the streets around the world; in Uganda alone 15,000 children struggle, with no home to call their own or knowing when their next meal will come.
We hope to educate and inspire others to join this fight; the more of us involved, the more lives we save. Only by working together and joining forces can we become strong enough to conquer the extreme struggles these children suffer around the world.
